WHAT IS NORTH SHORE ATHLETIC CLUB?

North Shore is a 24/7 hybrid gym in downtown Burlington built on community, connection, and pushing each other to grow. Offering CrossFit, HYROX, open gym, personal training, and team training, we’re more than a place to work out. We are a space where everyone belongs.

AUTUMN

Athletics have always been a big part of my life. I grew up playing competitive hockey and baseball which provided me with opportunities of a lifetime and taught lessons that continue to influence my everyday life. When my competitive sports era began to wind down, CrossFit filled that void. I initially found CrossFit in Australia while travelling for baseball. I vividly remember not being able to do pretty much anything, but it offered me a new challenge, a new purpose, and introduced me to an amazing community. I basically attempt to get everyone I know into CrossFit and not solely because of the physical benefits. Some of the closest friendships and best memories have been built inside this gym, which is why the community aspect of CrossFit is what I value most. My favourite part about coaching is watching people accomplish things they once thought were impossible. Seeing confidence grow with every class, every lift, and every small win is what makes coaching so rewarding.

EmMA

Sport has always been a huge part of my life. My passion for coaching started on the ice, where I learned the importance of discipline, confidence and building relationships through sport. As my focus shifted to strength & conditioning, I found CrossFit, where I was instantly motivated by the challenge, the intensity, and most importantly, the people. Over the last several years, CrossFit has become much more than just fitness for me, it’s become a passion that I have been fortunate enough to both live and coach. One of my favourite examples of what makes CrossFit so special is my mom’s journey. Five years ago, I encouraged her to give CrossFit a try, and she hasn’t looked back since. Watching her grow stronger and more confident reinforced something I truly believe: CrossFit really is for everyone.

Living proof that age is nothing but a number! I have participated in various sports since my teens. From high school wrestling to ski racing to ball hockey, I’ve always been involved in something. In my 40’s, I started focusing on running and worked my way up to become a successful Marathoner. I have qualified for 5 Boston Marathons, including the year of the bombing. I was an active member of the Burlington Running Club and eventually became the race director before being nominated for President of the Club. Similar to CrossFit, the running club was a community, where everyone was like family. During COVID, I was introduced to North Shore and the rest is history. I have competed in a number of CrossFit Masters events as well as the Ontario & Canadian Weightlifting Championships.
